Ethics and welfare

As part of our struggle to preserve biodiversity and protect the environment we take on a triple commitment: conservation, education and research, the backbone of Oasis Park Fuerteventura. In a world where human intervention has led to the extinction of some species, our commitment to conservation requires us to strive to achieve the highest standards in animal care and the coexistence of people and our animals within the environment.
More than a zoo, we strive to become a place of learning. We have the potential to teach the world the value of biological diversity, of wildlife and flora, of ecosystems and the interdependence of all living organisms on Earth. However, we need our allies: people who place their trust in the project through their participation and cooperation.

Together, we shall achieve the following goals:

  • Promote the interests of wildlife conservation, biodiversity and animal welfare among colleagues and society in general.

  • Cooperate with the broader conservation community, including wildlife agencies, conservation organisations and research centres to help preserve global biodiversity.

  • Cooperate with governments and other agencies to improve animal welfare standards and ensure the well-being of all the animals in our care.

  • Promote research and the dissemination of achievements and results in relevant publications and forums.

  • Treat the professionals dedicated to disseminating the information fairly.

  • Promote public educational programmes and cultural-recreational activities in zoos and aquariums.
